Madhukar Seth was a pupil of Nandalal Bose. He studied for six years under Master Mashai at Santiniketan and imbibed the spirit essential to an understanding of Indian art. His associates were Prithvish Neogy. Sukhmoy Moitra and Prabhash Sen, along with whom he cherished hopes of achieving something in Indian art. He had his early training under Rabindra Dutta, and later studied the various indigenous arts and crafts at Santiniketan.
After his return from Santiniketan, he settled down in Bombay. working as an independent artist and devoted part of his time in association with Vinayak Pandya and Ravishankar Pandit, in illustrating children's books.
Madhukar Seth is largely forgotten today. He was one of the featured artists in the book 'Present Day Painters of India : Manu Thacker Memorial Volume' published in 1950. Illustrated here is also an image of his work published in the book.
