Description :
Published in 1946, the chromolithograph titled 'Kalpa Taru' depicts a galaxy of over 180 miniature portraits of Congress leaders around the central image of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, which is framed within an ‘Om’. There are two strategic depictions of ‘Bharat Mata’. One at the center-top, where she is shown within the somewhat disproportionate map of undivided India with the tricolor in her hands, while the other in the form of a miniature portrait just below the portrait of Gandhi. There are matching motifs in the four corners, the Indian tricolour flying at the top, and two horsemen in each of the lower ends. They depict Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhas Chandra Bose at the left and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Maulana Azad at the right.
