B. Prabha was born in the village of Bela, near Nagpur in Maharashtra in 1933. She studied at the Nagpur School of Art and went on to pursue a Diploma in Painting and Mural Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. She has an instantly recognizable style of painting and is popular for graceful elongated figures of pensive tribal women.
Two rare ink works by B. Prabha, depicting a seated female nude and a male torso, executed on the same date, exemplify the artist's mastery over the medium.
