<p>Marie Temple Henderson was born in Igatpuri, Nashik district, India. Her father John Frederick Henderson was employed with the Indian railways as an Inspector. She obtained her Diploma in Teachers&rsquo; training from the J J School of Art in Mumbai. &nbsp;She later appeared for Advance class examination in painting. She passed this exam with distinction and was awarded a scholarship. In 1926, she appeared for the Art Master examination where she stood first. She was later appointed as a teacher at the J J School of art. While teaching, she had the privilege to continue her studies under the guidance of Gladstone Solomon and eventually she became a skilled painter and a popular teacher, especially for the subject of still life.</p>

<p>Her paintings were selected for All India exhibitions held in Shimla, Mysore and Mumbai from 1934 to 1955. She was awarded a Gold Medal in 1934 by The Bombay Art Society for her painting titled &lsquo;In the realms gold&rsquo;. She was appointed as Director of Art studies at the John Canon School on Bombay in 1950 where she worked for 15 years. Marie Temple returned to Kent, England in 1980 where she continued to paint and exhibit her works till her demise in 1987.</p>

<p>Her paintings were regularly exhibited at the Annual Shows of the Bombay Art Society from 1941 to 1953. Illustrated here along with the painting, are images of some of the works published in exhibition catalogues during those years.</p>
